Julie J. Miller

Julie J. Miller is a PhD candidate in History. She is obsessed with figuring out what it took to count as a person (it is not at all clear) in the place that became, but did not have to become, the United States of America, and ultimately, with understanding who counted and who was counted on to be out. Her dissertation investigates the concept of the person in the common law tradition and proceeds by asking what the concept meant for whom. She has taught courses on comparative slavery and seventeenth-century British revolutions, and in the 2014-15 academic year she was a Graduate Dissertation Research Fellow at the Center for European Studies. She holds a BA from Vanderbilt, an MPhil from Oxford, and an AM from Harvard.
