Thomas Westbrook

Thomas Westbrook is a senior concentrating in Philosophy, with a secondary in Classics and a citation in Classical Arabic. He is particularly interested in Kant's political and ethical philosophy, and in the use of ethics to explain the norms of practical life. Outside the classroom, he serves as an editor for The Harvard Crimson, the Harvard International Review, and Satire V. In his free time, he writes reviews of books, movies, and television. 

Financed by with a Lester Kissel Grant in Practical Ethics, Thomas is writing a senior thesis on the ethics of friendship, with particular attention paid to the notion of special obligations—the idea that we owe more to our friends than to strangers, or that we are obligated to help our friends in ways in which we are not obligated to help strangers.
