It is well known that findings in conflict with industrial policies require decades of research and discussion until they are finally accepted. One example is the area of cell phone radiation research. The assertion made in the 1950s that there are no effects of radio frequency electromagnetic fields besides the thermal ones, as such an assumption contradicts the laws of physics, is until today successfully defended by the cell phone industry on purely economic reasons. Involved are scientists who - against their better knowledge or because of naivety - deny any possibly non-thermal health damaging effects from cell phone radiation. Appointing them as "experts" and placing them in national and international committees that give advice to governments means that the status quo is usually ensured for decades. The result: substantial profits – at the cost of 'body counts'?
