Thomas Stratmann

In the research area of Public Choice, Political Economy, and ethical behavior, Stratmann studies the effect of campaign contributions on legislative voting behavior, and the role of campaign contributions for legislators' reputational development. In the latter research area, he emphasizes the role of repeated interactions between contributors and committee members of the U.S. Congress. Stratmann further studies the effect of state campaign finance regulations on the competitiveness of state elections. With respect to the impact of implemented laws, he analyzes the unanticipated consequences of changes in federal and state laws on individual behavior, in areas such as health care and crime.
