Takunda Matose was born in Zimbabwe and received his Ph.D. in philosophy from Vanderbilt University and his master's degree in Bioethics from the University of Pennsylvania. His research interests lie primarily at the intersection of bioethics and political philosophy. In his dissertation, he argues that a comprehensive account of justice in health care must rely on a social conception of health and take social groups to be legitimate units of moral concern. This idea motivates his research on public health ethics and racial health disparities. Takunda also has research interests in carceral justice stemming from his experience as a co-facilitator of the Reciprocal Education and Community Healing Coalition, a philosophy group that meets on Tennessee's death row. When he is not doing philosophy and bioethics, Takunda is an avid music fan who enjoys spending time outdoors with his Red-eared Slider, Geri, and his two English Pointers, Lozi and Loma.
