Priten Shah

Priten Shah is a senior concentrator in the Philosophy Department. He is also pursuing a secondary in South Asian Studies and a language citation in Sanskrit. He is mainly interested in political and moral philosophy, with a special focus on issues concerning gender and children. He is also interested in moral and political thought in pre-modern India and the ethics of scholarship on oppression. When he's not reading, thinking, or writing about philosophy, he's usually teaching it! Priten works with local schools and non-profits, as well as his own organization (United 4 Social Change), to encourage people to think critically about arguments concerning social issues. Financed with the Lester Kissel Grant in Practical Ethics, Priten is working on a project that aims to resolve the conflict between families and equal opportunity within Rawlsian justice. He hopes to show that the focus of inquiry should be on the types of opportunities available in a just society, rather than the chances of obtaining certain opportunities.
