Faculty Affiliate Allan Brandt has put together a remarkable course on the history of the opioid epidemic; there is now a public website where you can find student papers from that class, as well as related resources and reading lists. Professor Brandt is a member of the Justice, Health, and Democracy research team, and developed this class in part from the work of that project.
