Gerard Vong Named Director of the Master of Arts in Bioethics Program and Assistant Professor

Dr. Gerard Vong has been appointed Director of the Master of Arts in
Bioethics Program and Assistant Professor, at the Center for Ethics at
Emory University.

In this new leadership role, he will develop Emory’s distinguished
Master of Arts in Bioethics Program and its connections to healthcare
organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
Grady Memorial Hospital and the Healthcare Ethics Consortium.

Dr. Vong was a 2015-16 Fellow-in-Residence at the Edmond J. Safra
Center for Ethics at Harvard University.  Prior to this fellowship, he
taught at Fordham University and Oxford University, and was a Jane
Eliza Procter Fellow at Princeton University.  Dr. Vong received his
BSci (2003) and BA (2004) from the Australian National University, and
his BPhil (2008) and DPhil in Philosophy (2013) from Oxford
University.

Dr. Vong’s research focuses on the fair and ethical allocation of
scarce resources, with an emphasis on healthcare resources such as
donor organs. During his fellowship year at the Edmond J. Safra Center
for Ethics, Dr. Vong worked on a research monograph provisionally
entitled "Fair Chances and Healthcare," and pursued research on the
value of opportunity for human well-being.

The appointment is effective September 7, 2016.
