Please join us for a discussion with Frances Haugen as part of our series Decisions & Desserts: What I Decided and Why. These events put undergraduates in conversation with leading decisionmakers, and allow undergraduates to explore with them the ethical considerations and other factors that went into some of their major life decisions.

A specialist in algorithmic product management, Ms. Haugen has worked on ranking algorithms at Google, Pinterest, Yelp and Facebook. In 2019, she was recruited to Facebook to be the lead Product Manager on the Civic Misinformation team, where she dealt with issues related to democracy and misinformation, and later also worked on counter-espionage. After becoming increasingly alarmed by the choices the company makes prioritizing their own profits over public safety, Ms. Haugen made the decision, as a last resort and at great personal risk, to blow the whistle on Facebook, the reporting of which became known as "The Facebook Files."

This event is for undergrads only. Undergrads who are interested can reach out to the ejsafraevents@fas.harvard.edu to sign up.
