Joelle Abi-Rached

Joelle Abi-Rached is a PhD candidate in History of Science. Her interests lie at the intersection of history, ethics, and policy. Her dissertation explores the ethics of care and history of precarious lives, the history of norms and moral sensibilities, as well as the political and ethical implications of inter-sectarian institutional dynamics through the history of a 19th century Levantine missionary asylum. She holds a BS in Biology and an MD from the American University of Beirut, as well as an MSc in Philosophy and Public Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science. At Harvard, she has served as a Teaching Fellow for courses on medical ethics, history, and the philosophy and sociology of science, and was a Graduate Student Affiliate at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs in 2012-2013. She recently co-authored a book (with Nikolas Rose) on the key conceptual, political, and ethical mutations brought about by the "neuro-turn": Neuro: the new brain sciences and the management of the mind (Princeton University Press, 2013).
